It’s the most romantic day of the year; shop windows are filled with cupids, heart-shaped chocolates and floral arrangements to make your heart melt – or cringe if you are one of the many singles without a beau on February 14th. This day is long awaited by some, yet dreaded by others, but it doesn’t have to be! Whoever said a single girl can’t enjoy Valentine’s Day too? Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love, so stop moping and go out and enjoy it. Stuck for ideas on how? Today’s Outlook has just the thing for you! Read on to discover the single girls guide to surviving – and enjoying – Valentine’s Day!
Gather the Gals
What better way for a single gal to spend Valentine’s Day than celebrating life and the love of good friends. Call up the girls, dress to impress and head out to dinner at your favorite restaurant followed by a night of dancing till the early hours of the morning! Valentine’s Day won’t seem so bad when it’s filled with good friends and great cocktails. With all the fun you’ll be having celebrating, you’ll soon forget that you don’t have a date and realize that you don’t need to be part of a couple to have a good time.
Host a singles party
If you have a lot of single friends why not gather them together and host a Valentine’s Day Singles Only party! Keep it simple by playing board games, Pictionary or karaoke. Whip up a batch of your favorite cocktails and finger foods and everybody is guaranteed a night of fun. There's nothing like a good group of friends to lift your spirits. There is nothing better than friends that make you laugh… time flies when you’re having fun!
So what if you don't have someone to give you flowers and chocolates on Valentine's Day? Why not use the day as an excuse to pamper and treat yourself instead? Start with a trip to the spa for a manicure and pedicure followed by a visit to your massage therapist. If you’d rather avoid the outside world, grab your favorite drink while enjoying an aromatic bubble bath at home and then curl up with a good book or watch a movie afterwards. Better yet, spend the money that you would have usually spent on a partner for Valentine’s Day on yourself instead. The key is to pamper yourself! You don't need someone else to make you feel special!
Spend time alone on Valentine’s Day
If you really don’t feel like socializing and getting out and about, there is nothing wrong with spending the day solo. Declare it a day of leisure with housework and errands completely off limits. Think about what makes you happy and spend the day doing it, even if it’s as simple as spending time outdoors or wasting the day away reading trashy gossip magazines. By doing so, you will remind yourself of how good it can be to have time to yourself. It is the holiday for love, so show yourself love by devoting time to the things you enjoy most. After all, self love is one of the most important kinds of love there is.
It’s all about the attitude!
Don't focus on the fact that you are alone. Rather, focus on how much fun you have! Focus on how you can make plans in the spur of the moment without having to run it by a significant other! Celebrate your freedom!
Celebrate the love in your life
Change the way you view Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples; it is not just about being loved by that someone special, it’s about celebrating love in general. Why not take the opportunity to show everyone in your life how much you love them! Send a sweet card to your dad, buy roses for your mom, take your best friend out to lunch, or call your friends for the sole purpose of telling them how much having them in your life means to you!
